Gordon was drafted by the Washington Capitals in the first round of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut with the Capitals during the 2003-2004 season and played for the team until the 2010-2011 season. During his time in Washington, Gordon was often used as a defensive forward and penalty killer.
Throughout his NHL career, Boyd Gordon also played for other teams, including the Arizona Coyotes, Edmonton Oilers, and Philadelphia Flyers. His reputation as a reliable defensive forward and his ability to excel in the faceoff circle made him a valuable asset to his teams. Gordon retired from professional hockey in 2017.
