During the NHL lockout in the 2004-2005 season, the Edmonton Road Runners became the AHL affiliate of the Oilers. This provided Stoll with an opportunity to refine his skills, gain more ice time, and further develop his leadership abilities in a prominent role with the team. Stoll, already recognized for his two-way play and faceoff skills, continued to showcase his talents at the AHL level.
